Coming Back From COVID-19

Coming back from COVID-19 as a healthcare provider was intimidating.  How can we provide quality dental treatment, which generates significant saliva aerosol, while keeping both patient and staff completely and fully protected?  The Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, Dentists governing body, provided guidance with the safest and most onerous regulations in all of North America specific to Dental Clinics (link). To operate, a Dental Clinic SHOULD comply with these recommendations.  For City Oasis, complying with, and going beyond what is recommendation by RCDSO, was the only way we could comfortably return to work.  

City Oasis has made a number of changes in both process', as well as the physical reception and clinical space(s).

• City Oasis staff ALL vaccinated against COVID
• Patient Pre Screening Process
• Patient intake process
• Digital Forms
• Social Distance Reception Area
• Reception Area Glass and Sneeze Guards
• Frequent Reception Area wipe down 
• Separate Treatment Coordination room to ensure social distancing
• IPAC compliance (City Oasis has been IPAC compliant since opening in 2015)
• Dental Treatment Rooms (6) renovated to be sealed off and private
• High Quality HEPA Air filters in each treatment room (300 CFM per room)
• PPE (N95s, Face Shields, Gowns, Hair Caps, Foot Covers, etc)
• Disinfectant Fogging throughout office (reception and treatment areas)

Adopting all of the changes returning from COVID was not simple, people have had to form new habits and be more detail oriented.  The renovations and new equipment also required a significant investment.  However, at City Oasis we have great people who are all very experienced at their respective roles, and the changes were embraced and became a new way of life on Day 1.  Now, approximately 4 months since returning from COVID (reopened June 2020), we are so happy to be able to once again help people through dental care, and also feel completely safe and protected from COVID and all other health threats.
